Modern machine-washable rugs use ultra-fine polyester yarns over a thin, flexible backing. The result: a rug that's just as soft as a traditional pile but fits in a domestic washing machine.
What this actually changes

Not all "washable" rugs are equal. Look for:
- Machine-washable at 30°C minimum (not just spot-clean)
- Non-slip rubber backing — flexible, not rigid
- Low pile (under 10mm) — handles wash cycles better
- Designed for tumble dry on low, or quick line-dry
