Melange Plain Rug
About this rug
One colour, spun from several — a plain rug that is not quite flat
The yarn is a melange, which means two or three shades are twisted together before weaving rather than dyed as one. The result is a plain rug whose colour moves very slightly across the surface and never looks like a painted block. It also hides everyday marks far better than a flat colour does, which is the practical reason melange is used for plain rugs at all. Five colours, from cream through to olive.
5 colours to choose from
Made in cream, beige, grey, anthracite and green. Cream and ivory lift a dark room and make a small one feel larger. They ask a little more care by a front door, but in a sitting room or bedroom they do more for the space than a dark rug can. Beige sits between warm and cool, which is why it is the most forgiving neutral in a room with mixed woods and metals.
How it is made
Woven in Turkey from 100% polyester. Colour is dyed into the yarn before weaving rather than printed on afterwards, which is why it has depth and will not fade to a flat block.

Which size do I need?
160x230cm suits most uk sitting rooms and is the size to pick if you want the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug; 200x290cm works where the seating is spread wider, or under a six-seat dining table; 240x340cm and 300x400cm are for open-plan rooms where the rug has to define the seating area on its own; the smaller sizes suit a bedside, a hallway or a study; 80x300cm is a runner for a hall or a landing.
Under a dining table, allow around 60cm beyond each edge so chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.
Looking after it
This is a spot-clean rug rather than a washable one. Vacuum on a low, suction-only setting, blot spills as they happen, and rotate it every few months so it wears evenly. The full care guide is on the Care tab.
