About this rug

A pattern worn almost entirely away, leaving bands of gold and bone

There was a classical design here and most of it has gone. What survives are horizontal drifts of gold, bronze and bone where the pattern held, and bare ground where it did not. It behaves like an abstract rather than a traditional rug, and it is the most forgiving thing in the range for a room with a lot of wood in it.

Why beige works in a living room

Beige sits between warm and cool, which is why it is the most forgiving neutral in a room with mixed woods and metals.

How it is made

Woven in Turkey from 100% polyester on a cotton backing, at a 8mm pile. At 2,650 g/m² it has real weight, so it lies flat from the first day and stays where you put it. Colour is dyed into the yarn before weaving rather than printed on afterwards, which is why it has depth and will not fade to a flat block.

Which size do I need?

160x230cm suits most uk sitting rooms and is the size to pick if you want the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug; 200x290cm works where the seating is spread wider, or under a six-seat dining table; 240x340cm and 300x400cm are for open-plan rooms where the rug has to define the seating area on its own; the smaller sizes suit a bedside, a hallway or a study; 80x300cm is a runner for a hall or a landing.

Under a dining table, allow around 60cm beyond each edge so chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.

Looking after it

This is a spot-clean rug rather than a washable one. Vacuum on a low, suction-only setting, blot spills as they happen, and rotate it every few months so it wears evenly. The full care guide is on the Care tab.
