About this rug

A plain rug with nothing going on at all, which is exactly the point

There is no pattern, no border and no motif — just a deep, even field of colour with the faint directional sheen that a long microfibre pile gives as the light moves across it. It is the rug for a room that already has pattern in the sofa, the curtains or the wallpaper, and needs the floor to stop arguing. Nine colours, and the same rug is made as a circle as well as a rectangle.

Made in cream, beige, stone, mink, grey, anthracite, blue, green and pink. Cream and ivory lift a dark room and make a small one feel larger. They ask a little more care by a front door, but in a sitting room or bedroom they do more for the space than a dark rug can. Beige sits between warm and cool, which is why it is the most forgiving neutral in a room with mixed woods and metals.

How it is made

Woven in Turkey from 100% microfibre polyester on a jute backing, at a 13mm pile. At 2,500 g/m² it has real weight, so it lies flat from the first day and stays where you put it. Colour is dyed into the yarn before weaving rather than printed on afterwards, which is why it has depth and will not fade to a flat block.

Which size do I need?

160x230cm suits most uk sitting rooms and is the size to pick if you want the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug; 200x290cm works where the seating is spread wider, or under a six-seat dining table; the smaller sizes suit a bedside, a hallway or a study; the round sizes work under a circular dining table or in a bay window.

Under a dining table, allow around 60cm beyond each edge so chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.

Looking after it

This is a spot-clean rug rather than a washable one. Vacuum on a low, suction-only setting, blot spills as they happen, and rotate it every few months so it wears evenly. The full care guide is on the Care tab.
