About this rug

A plain cream flatweave with a fine basketweave grid

No pattern and no colour change — the entire surface is one even cream, and the only thing to look at is the small square grid of the weave itself. It behaves like a natural-fibre rug without the roughness, and at 4mm it clears a door and takes a dining chair being pushed back without catching.

Why cream works in a living room

Cream and ivory lift a dark room and make a small one feel larger. They ask a little more care by a front door, but in a sitting room or bedroom they do more for the space than a dark rug can.

How it is made

Woven in Turkey from polypropylene & polyester on a jute backing, at a 4mm pile. At 1,400 g/m² it has real weight, so it lies flat from the first day and stays where you put it. Colour is dyed into the yarn before weaving rather than printed on afterwards, which is why it has depth and will not fade to a flat block.

Which size do I need?

160x230cm suits most uk sitting rooms and is the size to pick if you want the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug; 200x290cm works where the seating is spread wider, or under a six-seat dining table; the smaller sizes suit a bedside, a hallway or a study.

Under a dining table, allow around 60cm beyond each edge so chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.

Looking after it

This is a spot-clean rug rather than a washable one. Vacuum on a low, suction-only setting, blot spills as they happen, and rotate it every few months so it wears evenly. The full care guide is on the Care tab.
